She was trained by her father, the late Ray Fraser, founder of Alpine Chimney Sweep in Omaha, Nebraska. Jacob Hagerty, Janie's son owns Alpine Chimney Sweep, III in Taos, NM The family has been in the chimney sweep business since 1983.

Alpine Chimney Sweep is certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America (C.S.I.A.). Certificate #4445. Janie is a member in good standing with the National Chimney Sweep Guild (N.C.S.G.) and a member of the National Fire Protection Association as well as the newly elected Iowa Representative for the Midwest Chimney Safety Council. Ever wanting to advance her training, Janie frequently attends both local and national conventions. Alpine Chimney Sweep also has 5 employees (2 summer, 3 winter) working under Janie's supervision.
